Quick test description:

Determination of the percentage of sperm with fragmented DNA using the Halosperm kit.

Test details:

By sperm analysis, it is possible to assess the quality of sperm based not only on their quantity, size, active movement or shape, but also by evaluating the degree of damage to their DNA, which is a separate criterion for assessing their quality. An important indicator of male infertility is DNA damage in the spermatozoid. To test the DNA of spermatozoids, a method called Halosperm is used, which can determine the ratio between spermatozoids with intact and fragmented DNA by using specific chemical solutions. This procedure enables determination of the percentage of damaged cells, or DNA fragmentation index (DFI).
Especially in situations where the cause of infertility remains unclear, or in frequent spontaneous abortions, this type of analysis is crucial. One of the advantages is the possibility to perform spermogram analysis and at the same time to evaluate DNA fragmentation of spermatozoids from a single ejaculate sample.
